Resia

One-Stop Remodeling Solution

Generate + Estimate + Contract + Manage

‘Non-designers can be a designer.
It’s time to say goodbye to all of the monotony and mediocrity
that plagues American design – by turning anyone into a designer.’

CEO of Resia, Clay Seifert

Project Overview

Resia is an AI-based startup that provides an efficient design tool platform for customers who want to remodel their houses. The platform connects customers with contractors who can provide designs that are not just creative, but also realistic, along with estimated remodeling costs.

Our ultimate goal is to enable ordinary people to design their own houses easily.

Problem Statement

We were in the process of building a minimum-viable product and validating our ideas. In the process, we questioned ourselves:

How might users efficiently remodel their homes without overwhelming them with the process?

UX Role

Resia’s R&D team comprises the CTO, three developers, a business analyst, and a UX designer (me).

My role was to

  • Conduct a competitive analysis of 10+ companies to identify market opportunities in interior design as a team

  • Create a workflow based from ideas

  • Lead weekly meetings with the CTO and developers to optimize the website’s user flow

  • Design a prototype of a mobile version of the website using Figma and AWS Amplify for rapid development

Research and Analysis

Active Competitors
1,321
97 Funded / 64 Exited / 4 Public / 60 Acquired

There are several active competitive companies in the current remodeling/interior market.

We had to find our uniqueness to identify the opportunities in the market:

  • What would be the most critical function for us?

  • Is there any service that connects customers and contractors in the remodeling market?

  • How quickly can we build functions for contractors and users?

We found that many competitive companies already enable contractors and builders to do their jobs effectively.

Thus, we decided to target consumers with unique features to differentiate them from others.

Defining Goals

Generate

Easy-to-use generative AI tools with realistic and inspirational images

Contract

Useful connection platform between client and contractor

+

Estimate

View estimated remodeling costs to move to the next step easily

Manage

Ideate

I created task flows that users and contractors typically go through to complete the project.

User:

  • Wants to decorate a room

  • Wants to find a professional and start the project

Contractor:

  • Wants to find clients

I included Resia's steps to match and complete the project for better understanding.

Design System

Prototype

Easy-to-use
Generative AI

The user can see their AI-generated remodeled room by simply uploading an image and clicking on the theme the user wants.

Users can save the images generated by the tool. They can also use them to publish the project references.

Get Inspired

The Inspiration page helps users find their style of choice and allows them to save images as a reference for designers.

Explore Experts at Once

The expert page designed for users allows for categories or styles to be found quickly by designers.

Users can save each designer/professional's profile, view their portfolio in detail, and send direct messages.

Manage Your Projects

Clients can view the progress of their projects, as updated by the contractor, on this page from anywhere with their phones.

The customer can post the project with the images they created or inspirational images they have on file and comment on them.

Impact

The Resia team is building a mobile version of the app. We launched a beta website with MVP pages and features.

We presented our ideas and features, which stood out to the sponsors. Resia was accepted into the 2024 cohort of the Capstone Accelerator program.

Next Steps

The next steps for this project are:

  • Introducing the cost calculation model

  • Designing and launching the 3D remodeling tool

  • Allowing interior designers to recommend furniture/finishes features by collaborating with interior design companies
